The Video Mode
Today, Alan, Fahed, Maciej and Serge attended a seminar on "Master Video With Your DSLR" arranged by Amateur Photographer - The Video Mode in association with Canon.
The presenter was Simeon Quarrie, a photographer and cinematographer with a passion for storytelling in all forms of his work - including weddings.
Simon emphasised the story behind the film is the most important aspect not the latest bit of kit and as Serge said in his presentation at our last meeting - good audio is key.

London Lumiere Festival
Alan, Aruna, Catherine, James and Serge filmed the Lumiere Festival in Central London tonight.
Despite the cold it was a great experience walking down the middle of Regent's Street and Piccadilly with crowds of people.
Highlights were the flying fish, Anthony Gormley style statues on buildings and floating over St. James' Square and the film star images projected on a building.

Work in Progress: A Challenge
If you don’t have anything to show just come along and talk about your ideas for a new film.
There may be left over mince pies for the best film / idea!
Friday 08 January 2016 7.30 - 10.00 pm
Quaker Meeting House, 58 Alexandra Grove, North Finchley, London N12 8HG
Got a new camera or smartphone for Christmas? Or still using your old ones?
It doesn’t matter what you use – the challenge is to make a short film, less than 2 minutes, on any subject.
Bring it to our first evening programme of 2016 for friendly comment and discussion – the idea could lead to our next club film. Let’s try to break our record for the number of entries.

Simon and I have been working on the editing of the film for the Haringey Phoenix Group. We had so far 4 sessions of 5 hours, necessary to watch the rushes and start the edit itself. I can say that it is well on it's way at the moment and will probably finished by the end of the year if all the usual greeting season activities don't interfere too much. I believe that the total lenght will be around 6 minutes, a little bit longer than expected but difficult to make it shorter without removing some essential content.
Since I have it handy here on my workstation, I take advantage of any free moment to work on improvements, smoothing, sound quality, transitions etc to accelerate the process as much as possible. To be continued...

As some of you heard last Friday we have decided to have a change of venue for our Christmas Social this year.
It will now be on -
Friday 18th December 2015.
8.00 p.m onwards (they say we can stay as long as we like - it closes at midnight)
Cocorico Ristorante Italiano
1314 - 1316 High Road
Whetstone, N20 9HJ
It is opposite Waitrose. The 34, 234, 326 and 263 buses stop almost outside.
Totteridge and Whetstone tube station is about 5 minutes walk - but it is uphill.
There is a pub "The Griffin" a few minutes walk away if you get there early or fancy a drink beforehand.
There is a choice of 3 Christmas menus
(which they would prefer us to choose from) but you can order from the a la carte menu if you don't fancy the specials.
Visit their website for more information -
I have paid a deposit of £150 for 15 people - but we can have another 5 places if required.
I need to know ASAP - How many people want to go and your choice of menus.
At the latest I have to confirm numbers and menus by 10th December
The special menus are £18.90, £21.90 or £25.90 plus 10% service charge.
Drinks, coffee etc will be extra.
Norman won't be doing the usual quiz this year but there will be some entertainment.
I'm sure it will be a great evening and special thanks to Aruna for organising.
PS - I'm sending this to all our members and associate members - even if you live in far flung places you might happen to be nearby on the night.
